Several people have asked to see pictures of the inside of the Duchess’ boat. I only have a couple and they don’t do justice to its cosy comfort, but here they are. The first was taken on Boxing Day 2 years ago. The people in the picture are 3 of my grandchildren. James, standing, lives in the States. Since that photo he has married and will soon be the father of a baby boy. Elizabeth has on earmuffs (it was chilly). Since that photo she has spent more than a year in Africa working with disabled orphans. Tom is seated. Since the photo he has finished Cambridge and will go to drama school in the fall.
The second picture I took on my recent trip. It is looking in the opposite direction from the photo above.
Here are two pictures of the river and the view from the boat.
I had a friend who lived on a boat like that year round. I think he still has it.
It all looks very peaceful on that river.
It’s a lot more comfortable looking on the inside than I expected. She certainly has a lovely view!
Oh that is amazing I can’t believe there’s a firestove there. Must be very cosy in the winter. Is it wood?
What I love is the efficient use of space.
Marvellous.

Welcome back! It sounds like a wonderful trip, with good work, good food, and good people.
Thank you for posting these photos. The boat looks like a fun place to live. I can imaging being rocked to sleep at night if another boat goes by.
Oh this takes my thoughts back to my late teenage years when I spent much of my spare time on a Narrow boat. You and your daughter may be interested in this blog………………….

Oh marvelous and brave. I gave up a big house and garden for a boat once, and today from my gardenless condo admit I don’t miss it or the watery problems. What happened to my sense of romance, I wonder.
Thank you so much for sharing. I was hoping we would get to see the inside. It’s lovely.
Oh lovely! I was having a hard time imagining how one would orient the inside to be comfy. Its fairly obvious now with the photos!
Oh, how I covet that narrowboat! Enjoy, Duchess…
